A foot in the door

If you've ever started your own business you know how hard it is to get your foot in the door.  You might be the best in your field but that customer, business or vendor you're targeting might already be working with someone and they might not want to work with someone new.  This is the age old question: How do I get that customer to do business with me.

Getting your foot in the door is essential, getting your target to take notice is what starts the process of building a relationship.

We worked with a Talent Manager a while back and she had some stiff competition getting her clients seen by casting directors when she herself had only a few relationships.  We came up with a colorful presentation that not only garnered attention but was suitable to her personality.  Her logo, cards, mailing labels and website were 70's themed Daises of all colors.  It might have seemed silly but it worked.  When she called Casting offices from her management company they started to associate her with her logo, and that opened the door for relationship building.  Soon every casting director knew who she was and all of her clients were getting auditions.

Creativity is a huge part of marketing, so is selling, and of course the most important, relationships.

Think about it.  What would make you look twice at a business whose services you need?
